Portuguese version of EIB-11 impulsivity scale: psychometric properties
Abstract. The present study had the objective of adapting and validating Barrat’s impulsivity scale (1) for the Portuguese population and analyzing their psychometric characteristics. First, BIS-11 was translated and adapted to the Portuguese population, evaluating the internal consistency and temporal stability in which good values of internal consistency were obtained, confirming the temporal stability of the measurement by obtaining significant correlations between the test and the retest and the coefficient of Cronbach’s α in the two moments (0.728) and the retest (0.733). After this procedure BIS-11 was renamed Impulsivity Scale (EIB-11). Second, in a sample of 355 adult subjects of both sexes, the internal consistency behavior (0.762) was again verified and the exploratory factorial analysis was conducted, resulting in 9 factors, followed by the parallel analysis that extracted a reliable solution of 4 factors. The results showed that EIB-11 have adequate psychometric characteristics, although its use must be carried out with care, taking into account the phenomenon that it evaluates.
